Mobile Gaming Roundup CHINA – 03/04/2016

China’s new publishing regulations | Mobile Gaming media flourishes | Canadian Archiact gets Chinese investor

China’s Mobile Gaming Industry for the Week Ending March 4, 2016. Welcome to E-Link’s weekly roundup of mobile gaming news in China. With our team in China, we choose the most useful/relevant news in the Chinese mobile gaming industry.

The new regulations will be effective March 10, 2016. Client games, browser games and mobile games will all need to be authorized to be published in China. While this is not new, the government will likely be more strict when approving requests. Overseas games publishing activities in China now must go through publishers with specific licences. Also, games published in China also need authorizing IDs. Contact E-Link for more details.

Mobile gaming media is now the new trend in China
According to the study, over 30 Chinese game companies had IPO’s in 2015. Among these companies, over 37% of them are involved in both game development and publishing/operations. 25% of them are purely publishing media channels. In the last year, Alibaba announced a cooperation with Chinese internet giant, Youku. Baidu also acquired several mobile gaming/app review websites such as An Zhuo Wang, 91 Mobile Gaming, Ping Guo Wang, 18183 etc. Tencent and Sina.com both have their own gaming media sites.

Chinese IPO company, San Qi Interactive Entertainment, made the announcement suggesting that they will buy 10% of Archiact’s shares for 3.16 Million USD. San Qi will help Archiact publish its VR games to Asian markets. San Qi’s move indicates a growing potential of Asia VR gaming market.
